Aoife Forrestal is a Dublin artist who captures the craic zeitgeist of Ireland to a tee over recent years with her excellent Fingerdoodles art!
Her cards and prints address issues of national importance such as the great Barrys Vs Lyons tea debate (obviously Barrys wins!), and the wonderous healing powers of Sudocrem, all the while putting a smile on your face.
Huge thanks to Aoife for sharing her art insights with us! Before jumping into her interview below, check out the fantastic selection of art products available on her online shop.
Artist Interview
What's the latest piece of art that you have put out into the world?
The last thing I did was a range of prints which I named "Positive Prints". I had just listened to a podcast with Holly Tucker where she spoke about starting a small business, and how you have to keep going. I thought about the times we were in right now and what I could create that would make people smile.
What drives you to keep creating?
I think if i wasn't drawing or creating, I'd lose my mind. The main thing that keeps me going is peoples reactions, when I draw something for someone, like a pet that has passed away, or a first home, or a grandparent, and they love it. It's such a rewarding feeling. If I'm in a shop that sells my cards and there's a customer looking at them, seeing the person pick it up and buy it, or even laugh at it, is an amazing feeling.
Is there another artist's work that you would recommend, and why?
A friend of mine, Blonde Graphics, creates really amazing, colourful, mind blowing images. You can check her out: @blonde_graphics.
Do you have any advice for creators that are just starting out?
I've been Fingerdoodling for about 4/5 years now. It's a long road starting out, all I can say is keep at it and don't give up. There were plenty of times in the beginning where I wanted to pack it in, but I'm glad I kept at it.
Where can we find your work?
All my cards, framed prints & tote bags are for sale in my online store www.fingerdoodles.ie and you can check out my custom work on instagram @fingerdoodles. You'll also find a list of shops on my website that sell my greeting cards if you like to buy in person!
